How I Learned About Black Friday

I'm not a shopper. Once in a while I get in the mood to shop and then I can shop with the best of them. But most of the time I shop like a man. I have a list. I get in, get it and get out. I hate sale racks, thrift stores and stores set up like thrift stores. They're overwhelming. I'd rather pay extra and get it over with than look for a deal.

About 30 years ago, David and I decided we needed a microwave cart. He hated shopping even more than I did so I headed to Wal-mart to see what I could find that might fit our budget. Did I mention that it was the day after Thanksgiving?

Here's the thing - somehow, I didn't know about Black Friday. Of course, back then, it wasn't as big of a deal as it is now. But it was still a very heavy shopping day with lots of great sales. I got to Wal-mart, fought the crowds to get a microwave cart and stood in line for an hour.  I was so confused! I had no idea why everybody and their brother was at Wal-mart.

I don't remember how I figured it out but I haven't set foot in any store the day after Thanksgiving since then.

In case you're interesting in reading the real story about Black Friday, you can find it here.
