Thanksgiving is Next Thursday???

Please tell me Thanksgiving really isn't next Thursday! It seems like yesterday that I checked the calendar and it was at least three weeks away.  But now it's only one week.  How in the world did that happen???

Actually I can tell you how it happened.
I haven't been using my planner.  It's not that I don't want to - well, I take that back.  I actually don't want to.  I'm bored with my planner and I'm tired of scheduling tasks that never get done.  I'm tired of making daily plans that go from Plan A to Plan Z by noon.  Unfortunately, since I have ADHD, a planner is essential if I want to function well.  The Thanksgiving situation is a good example.

When I use my planner daily, I'm reminded regularly (and visually) that Thanksgiving is coming up.  I can also see how much time is left between now and Thanksgiving.  That helps me plan and prevents Thanksgiving (or any other important dates) from sneaking up on me.

So what should I do? I should probably go get my planner, open it up and start using it again.  Will I? I absolutely will - as soon as I decide which planner and which format to use.

  1. I hear ya! I have been in that boat a couple times this year myself. It's frustrating and I feel your frustration.

    1. It's definitely frustrating. I want to fix it but I just don't know how.

  2. Haha me too on the planners Patty! My problem is I love them ALL. I just go with the flow these days and use whichever seems to fit the circumstance.

    1. I wish I could do that. That's kind of what my daughter-in-law does. I need just one that I use long-term, though, or I feel scattered.

  3. How about a fresh start for 2016 with a brand new planner? Treat yourself to a new one for Christmas perhaps. I know it's the inside system that matters, but sometimes a shiny, new exterior can get the wheels rolling

    1. I actually did that. I got a compact Collages (Aurora) from KerrieLynn and it was nice to have a new binder that I love (I had one a long time ago). Actually what I want is a shiny new interior but I can't find one that really works for me.

  4. I went through the same thing - about 3 weeks of not using my planner. I think it was late spring or early summer...to help get me back out of the planner vacation, I started by listing things I had accomplished rather than what I wanted to do and it didn't take long before I was actually planning my days instead of reacting to my days. Also - it helps to commit to a size - I went first into a compact, then scored a great looking FC pocket size and then I realized - who am I kidding - I NEED the classic size - it is the best fit for my life, it is the easiest for me to add pages to and I feel the most comfortable holding, using and handling it AND it is the size I always come back to time and time again. The pocket size has become my wallet and financial tracker. It also has a monthly calendar "just in case" because we planner nerds always want/need a "just in case". I still "plan" the way I always have, but the inserts change upon occasion....

    1. That's a thought, KerrieLynn. Maybe I should try writing down what I did and see what happens.
