Moving Monday #2

Yes, I realize today isn't Monday.  It's actually Thursday.  I meant to write this post on Monday but I obviously didn't get it done.  So here it is on Thursday.  But I'm still calling it Moving Monday.

On Saturday we looked at two more houses.  The first house was actually a set of two that were located side by side.  The idea was that we buy both of them and use the first one for our home and the second for a shop.  Between the two they had about 1.5 or 2 acres of property.  However, house #2 was a nightmare.  We went in the house but didn't stay long.  It was scary.  But the real deal breaker was the highway noise.  The highway was just about in the back yard and the noise was deafening.  So we didn't bother going in the other house.

The next house we went in was awesome!  It was a very large ranch on 3.6 acres.  The house was dated and needed some work (like a new roof ASAP) but it was very cool!  The price was a little higher than we wanted but it was definitely a fair price.  We seriously considered that house but in the end we walked away.  We decided it was too expensive and it wasn't where we wanted to be.  It was also on a busy road which is something we don't want.  By the way, that house sold after four days on the market.

Tuesday evening we looked at two more houses.  The first house wasn't something we were pretty sure wouldn't work but we wanted to take a look just in case.  It didn't.  It was on a busy road.  The house was a mess and overpriced.  Just for the record, most of the houses we look at are messes.  But there are different kinds of messes.  Some of them are so horrible that you just don't even know how to fix it - like rearranged floor plans or weird additions.  Others are horrible but can be fixed.  This one was in between those two.  But between the price and the busy road, we crossed this one off the list.

And finally, we looked at this one.

This house was really interesting.  It's on a busy road but the road front is all bushes so you can't even see the house.  There's a very narrow driveway that goes through the bushes and crosses a small creek.  It's scary getting across without falling into the creek.  Once you get past that, there's a large square of yard with the house and a detached two car garage.  Next door are several horses.  It looks like a farm.  The property is 1.4 acres and located on a corner.  But . . . the house is really small.  It has a small living room, eat-in kitchen, two bedrooms and a bath on the main floor and two bedrooms and a bath upstairs.  We didn't really want a two story house and we like a house with a larger living area.  I really, really, really wanted this house to work but I don't think it will.  Between the small square footage and the busy road, we'll have to pass.  But we not quite ready to mark it off the list.

Now here's the big news.  We made an offer on a house last week and we're currently in the negotiation process. I'm not sure if it's going to work out.  It's a repo and the agency we're dealing with is difficult.  But I'll keep you posted.

    1. Ha! I felt a little guilty doing that but in the end I did it anyway. However, you can see it in today's post. We didn't get it, by the way!
